Dan Pinnington is Director, practicePRO at the Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company (LAWPRO) in Toronto. practicePRO (practicepro.ca) is an innovative legal malpractice claims prevention initiative that provides Ontario lawyers with tools and resources to assist them in avoiding malpractice claims and succeeding in the practice of law.
Dan has a LLB/JD from the Universities of Windsor and Detroit and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993. Prior to joining LAWPRO in 2001, he practiced for eight years in the litigation department of a Niagara Falls-area law firm. He has extensive hands-on experience with legal technologies and for several years also held the manager of information systems position at his firm.
Dan was inducted as a Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management in 2007 and is a prolific writer and speaker on risk management, technology, and law practice management issues. He is a veteran of hundreds of presentations at law firms, CLE programs, and conferences all over North America and has chaired more than a dozen major conferences.
Dan is very active in the ABA’s Law Practice Management Section. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the ABA LPM’s Law Practice magazine, and one of his monthly columns from the magazine won the 2007 Edge Award for Best Regular Column. He was Chair of ABA TECHSHOW® 2007 and helped launch the Law Practice Today Webzine. Through a variety of roles Dan has and continues to actively participate in the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations. Dan is very busy at home as well, as he and his wife, Elizabeth, have five children under the age of twelve.
